Connect to Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics

Let's configure the Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics connection properties to connect to Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics.

Before you begin

Before you get started, you'll need to get information from your Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics account based on the connection mode that you want to configure.
Check out Prepare for authentication to learn more about the authentication prerequisties.

Connection details

The following table describes the basic connection properties:
Property
Description
Connection Name
Name of the connection.
Each connection name must be unique within the organization. Connection names can contain alphanumeric characters, spaces, and the following special characters: _ . + -,
Maximum length is 255 characters.
Description
Description of the connection. Maximum length is 4000 characters.
Type
Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics
Use Secret Vault
Stores sensitive credentials for this connection in the secrets manager that is configured for your organization.
This property appears only if secrets manager is set up for your organization.
This property is not supported by Data Ingestion and Replication.
When you enable the secret vault in the connection, you can select which credentials that the Secure Agent retrieves from the secrets manager. If you don't enable this option, the credentials are stored in the repository or on a local Secure Agent, depending on how your organization is configured.

Runtime Environment
The name of the runtime environment where you want to run tasks. Select a Secure Agent or serverless runtime environment.

Connection modes

You can configure your Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics connection to use either the Admin User or Service Principal connection mode.
Select the required connection mode and then configure the authentication-specific parameters.

Admin User connection mode

Admin User connection mode requires your Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics account user name and password.
The following table describes the connection properties for the Admin User connection mode:
Azure Synapse Analytics Subscription ID
Subscription ID of Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics.
Azure Synapse Analytics Client ID
The application ID or client ID of your application registered in Azure Active Directory.
Azure Synapse Analytics Username
Fully qualified user name to connect to Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics instances. Contact your administrator for the user name.
Azure Synapse Analytics Password
Password associated with the user name. Contact your administrator for the password.

Service Principal connection mode

Service Principal connection mode requires the tenant ID and client secret of your application registered in Azure Active Directory.
The following table describes the connection properties for the Service Principal connection mode:
Azure Synapse Analytics Subscription ID
Subscription ID of Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics.
Azure Synapse Analytics Client ID
The application ID or client ID of your application registered in Azure Active Directory.
Azure Synapse Analytics Tenant ID
The tenant ID of your application registered in Azure Active Directory.
Azure Synapse Analytics Client Secret
The client secret key to connect to Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics instances through Azure Active Directory. Contact your administrator for the client secret key.
