Rule specifications and exception management

An exception is a record that contains unresolved data quality issues. You can configure a rule specification to find exception records as part of an exception management process. In an exception management process, you add a rule specification that you configured for exception management to a profiling task. You then create an exception task from the profiling task.
A rule specification can add data to each exception record that describes the type of data quality issue that the record represents. The exception data properties include an output field for status values that can summarize the data quality issue that the rule logic identifies in a record. The properties also include an output for values that indicate the priority of each issue and an output to contain a description of each issue. The output values allow a downstream user to find exception records and to understand the reasons why a record is an exception.
For more information about the exception data properties, see Exception data properties.
