Moving hierarchy records

You can move records within a hierarchy or to another hierarchy. The records that you move might have child records. You can move the record along with its child records or remove the child record associations from the record before the move.

Moving a record within a hierarchy

To move a record within the same hierarchy, drag the record from one location to the other. When you move a record from one location to another, the child records of the record also move along with the record. Hierarchy attribute values are retained when you move a record within the same hierarchy. If the relationship type is not valid, you can't move the record. You can't move a record if the target record has no compatible relationship type with the record that you move.
    1Click Hierarchies.
    The Hierarchies page appears.
2Expand the hierarchy model to which the hierarchy is associated.
The hierarchies associated with the hierarchy model appear.
3Select the hierarchy from which you want to move a record, and click Open.
For example, open the Email hierarchy.
The hierarchy appears in a tab.
The following image shows the Email hierarchy:
The Campaign - Email hierarchy has the child records Evan Davis, Holly Corbett, John Smith, and Stuti Dutt.
4To move a record, drag the record to the desired location within the hierarchy.
    The hierarchy record is updated.
    5Click Submit.
If a workflow is configured, the change is sent for approval.

Moving records between hierarchies

You can move a record from one hierarchy to another by removing the record from the hierarchy and adding the record to the location you prefer within another hierarchy.
To move a record from one hierarchy to another, perform the following tasks:
  1. 1Removing a record from a hierarchy
  2. 2Adding a record to a hierarchy

Example: Moving records between hierarchies

To move a record from one hierarchy to another, remove the record from the hierarchy and add the record to the location you prefer within another hierarchy.
In this scenario you have two Campaign hierarchies Email and Phone. You want to move the Holly Corbett record from the Email hierarchy to the Phone hierarchy. The Holly Corbett record has child records Agata Arya and James John. You can move the record with or without its child records. The following image shows the Email and Phone hierarchies and highlights the Holly Corbett record that you want to move:
The Email hierarchy contains the Holly Corbett record and its child records. The Phone hierarchy contains two records.
The following table describes the move actions for Holly Corbett and their outcomes:
Move Action
Steps to Move a Record
Outcome
Move the Holly Corbett record with its child records
  1. 1Remove the record from the Email hierarchy. Ensure that you select Remove record only.
  2. 2Add the record to the Phone hierarchy.
The Holly Corbett record is removed from the Email hierarchy, but the child record associations aren't removed from the record. After the move, Holly Corbett and its child records appear in the Phone hierarchy.
The following image shows the Campaign hierarchies after the Holly Corbett record is moved:
The Email hierarchy doesn't contain the Holly Corbett record. The Phone hierarchy contains the Holly Corbett record along with its child records.
Move the Holly Corbett record without its child records
  1. 1Remove the record from the Email hierarchy. Ensure that you select Remove record and all its child records and relationships.
  2. 2Add the record to the Phone hierarchy.
