Restarting a mapping task

You can restart a CDC task by using cold start or warm start option. You can only use CDC connectors as a source.

Cold start

A cold start restarts a CDC task from the beginning of the task without recovery. Cold start enables you to restart a failed CDC task. When you restart a failed task that has recovery enabled, Data Integration does not process recovery data. When you click Restart on the job details page, a dialog box appears that enables you to restart the job from the beginning of the task. Select Restart from beginning of task and then click Restart.
Cold start triggers the creation of new restart recovery tracking files. Any previous CDC processing and restart recovery tracking files are removed. The start point associated with the cold start is associated with the implied position of the Restart Point setting on the CDC Runtime Options tab of the mapping task.

Warm start

A warm start resumes processing from the point where the task ended and is the typical way to restart a CDC task after you perform the initial cold start process. Warm start performs recovery when you warm start a task. To warm start a task, you can select Run from the mapping task editor, or select Run for a mapping task listed in the Explore page, or select Restart for a specific job from the My Jobs page. When you click Restart on the job details page, a dialog box appears that enables you to restart the job from the point where it last ended. You can configure the Recovery Strategy option on the Runtime Options tab of the mapping task under Advanced Session properties.
