Technical assets are representations of data elements, technical data sets, data containers that Metadata Command Center extracts from a source system.
The technical assets that you see in Data Governance and Catalog depend on the configurations that your organization administrator applies in Metadata Command Center. These configurations include the metadata extraction settings for the catalog sources, the capabilities that are enabled, the profiling filters that are applied, the job schedules that are defined, and other factors. For more information about catalog source configurations, see Administration in the Metadata Command Center help.
Technical assets in Data Governance and Catalog can be broadly categorized in the following manner:
•Data elements are the smallest unit of data in a source system. Columns, files, fields are examples of data elements.
•Technical data sets are a collection of data elements. For example, a table is a technical data set as it is a collection of columns.
•Data containers hold the data for an application. Examples of data containers are schema and database.
•Catalog sources are objects that represent the source system from which you extract metadata. You can create catalog sources in Metadata Command Center to extract metadata from source systems like Amazon S3 and Oracle.
For more information about technical assets, see the Understanding Technical Assets help.
Creating AI models from technical assets
Create an AI Model business asset from an AI Model Core Version technical asset. When you create an AI model from a technical asset, you add business context and meaning to the technical asset. You can assign stakeholders to the AI Model.
The following prerequisites apply if you want to create an AI model asset from an AI Model Core Version technical asset:
•The organization administrator must grant you the Create permission for the AI Model business asset through access policies in Metadata Command Center.
•To establish associations between the AI Model and Data Set assets, the organization administrator must grant you the Update permission for the AI Model business asset, Data Set business asset, and the AI Model Core Version technical asset through access policies in Metadata Command Center.
•To assign stakeholders to the asset, the organization administrator must grant you the Manage Access permission on the asset through access policies in Metadata Command Center.
When you create an AI model from a technical asset, consider the following:
•You can import AI Model Core Version technical assets from only the Databricks source system.
•If the AI Model Core Version asset that you select is associated with more than 20 data sets, when you create the AI Model business asset, it will initially have a maximum of 20 associated data sets. You can add additional associations after the AI Model asset is created.
1Open the AI Model Core Version technical asset for which you want to create an AI Model business asset.
2On the AI Model Core version asset page, click Create AI Model.
3On the Overview tab of the New AI Model wizard, configure the properties of the AI Model asset that you want to create.
The following table describes the fields that you can configure for the new AI Model asset:
Field
Description
Name
Name of the AI model.
Description
Functional definition of the AI model. The size of the field should not exceed 1 MB.
Asset Groups
The asset group of the AI model. Asset groups can be used in access policies to control access to assets.
Reference ID
Unique reference identifier for the AI model.
4To assign stakeholders to the AI model, click the add icon in the Stakeholders section.
5In the Modify Stakeholders dialog box, select a role, and then select the users or user groups that you want to add as stakeholders to the asset. Click OK.
6Click Next.
7On the Metrics tab of the New AI Model wizard, select the evaluation metrics for the AI model. You can use the static value scanned from the source system or manually enter a value.
8Click Create to create a new AI Model asset.
Creating data sets from technical assets
Create a data set from a technical asset, such as a table, to establish an automatic relationship between them. When you create a data set from a technical asset, you add business context and meaning to the technical asset. You can assign stakeholders to the data set, relate the data set to other assets, and view the data elements related to the data set.
The following prerequisites apply if you want to create a data set from a technical asset:
•The organization administrator must grant you the Create permission for the Data Set business asset through access policies in Metadata Command Center.
•To assign stakeholders to the asset, the organization administrator must grant you the Manage Access permission on the asset through access policies in Metadata Command Center.
1Open the technical asset for which you want to create a data set.
2On the Overview tab, click Create Data Set.
3On the New Data Set page, enter the following properties of the data set that you want to create:
Field
Description
Name
Name of the data set.
Parent
Select the name of the parent AI system asset or the system asset to which the data set belongs.
Description
Description that adds meaning or context to the data set.
Reference ID
Unique identifier for the data set.
The data elements associated with the technical asset are displayed on the Data Elements section of the New Data Set page.
4To assign stakeholders to the data set, click the add icon in the Stakeholders section.
5In the Modify Stakeholders dialog box, select a role, and then select the users or user groups that you want to add as stakeholders to the asset. Click OK.
6Click Create to create a new Data Set asset.
When you open the data set asset page, you see different tabs on the page. For more information about what each tab on the data set asset page means, see the Understanding Business Assets help.
Creating system assets from technical assets
Create a system asset from a catalog source to establish an automatic relationship between them. When you create a system from a catalog source, you add business context and meaning to the data contained in the catalog source. You can assign stakeholders to the system, relate the system to other assets, and more.
The following prerequisites apply if you want to create a system asset from a catalog source:
•The organization administrator must grant you the Create permission for the System business asset through access policies in Metadata Command Center.
•To assign stakeholders to the asset, the organization administrator must grant you the Manage Access permission on the asset through access policies in Metadata Command Center.
1Open any catalog source asset for which you want to create a system.
2On the Overview tab, click Create System.
3On the New System page, enter the following properties of the system that you want to create.
Field
Description
Name
Name of the system.
Parent
Select another system asset to be the parent of the system asset that you are creating.
Description
Description that adds meaning or context to the system.
Reference ID
Unique identifier for the system.
System Type
Choose the type of the system that you want to create.
Purpose
Choose from a list of predefined values the purpose of the system that best describes its function.
