Data profiling components

When you create a profile, you specify data elements such as columns and associate one or more data quality assets as rules with the data elements. Data profiling extracts column statistics from the data elements that you select.

Working with data elements

The following table describes the column precision ranges that apply to the data elements that you specify:
Data Type
Column Precision Range
Numeric
0 through 38
Non-numeric
0 through 4000
The following table lists the properties that you can view for the data elements that you specify:
Property
Description
Name
The name of the data element.
Business Name
The business name of the data element.
Data Type
The data type of the data element.
Precision
The number of characters in the data element.
Scale
The number of numeric characters after the decimal point.
Nullable
Indicates whether the data element can accommodate a NULL value.
Glossaries
Glossary assets that are associated with the data element.
Classifications
Data classifications associated with the data element.
To sort the list of columns in ascending or descending order, click the property name or the Sort icon. Use the Find box to search for columns.

Working with rules

You can add one or more data quality assets as rules. Select a rule specification, cleanse, parse, or verifier asset to associate with data elements.
For an asset that has a single input field, associate one or more columns for the field. For an asset that has multiple input fields, choose a column for each field. You can also automatically assign rules to columns based on column name and field name match.
