Before you start using Data Governance and Catalog, you must import technical or business assets so that they can appear in the interface.
You can import a large number of assets quickly to Data Governance and Catalog in the following ways:
•To import technical assets, the organization administrator must configure Metadata Command Center.
•To import business assets, use a bulk upload template file.
For information about the types of assets that can appear in Data Governance and Catalog, see Asset types.
Import technical assets
To import technical assets to Data Governance and Catalog, the organization administrator must configure Metadata Command Center to scan the source systems in your organization.
Metadata Command Center scans the source systems according to the configured schedule, extracts metadata, and sends the metadata to Data Governance and Catalog. Depending on the scan schedule and scope configured by the organization administrator in Metadata Command Center, technical assets appear automatically in Data Governance and Catalog.
When the organization administrator configures a scan schedule in Metadata Command Center, you might find a large number of assets in Data Governance and Catalog after the first scan. For subsequent scans, incremental assets are sent to Data Governance and Catalog.
For more information about importing technical assets, see Metadata Command Center in the Metadata Command Center help.
Import business assets
If you need to upload a large number of business assets to Data Governance and Catalog or if you want to assign business context to a large number of technical assets, you can enter the values in a Microsoft Excel file and upload the file to Data Governance and Catalog.
Note: To import business assets, the organization administrator must provide you the Data Governance and CatalogImport privilege. For more information about the available features that the organization administrator can enable, see the Manage access to assets topic in the Asset Management help.
For more information about bulk uploading assets, see the Bulk Import help.
