Categories

A category is a grouping of related data collections. It is a predefined classification where stakeholders can publish data collections. Use the Marketplace - Category Template.xlsx file or upload your own Microsoft Excel file to create categories in Data Marketplace.

Prerequisites

Before you can create categories, verify one of the following prerequisites:

Column description

The following table describes the fields in the Marketplace - Category Template.xlsx file and the values that you can enter:
Field
Description
Example
Reference ID
Enter a reference identifier for the category.
Field Type: Free text; optional
Guidelines: If you don't specify a reference identifier, Data Marketplace automatically assigns a unique value to the object.
If you want to specify a reference identifier, enter a unique alphabetical, numeric or alphanumeric value. You can also use special characters when you enter a reference identifier value. Ensure that the value that you enter doesn’t use a prefix value that is configured in Metadata Command Center.
For more information about reference IDs, see the Manage reference IDs of objects topic in the Set Up Data Marketplace help.
You can specify Category01 or CT-1 as the reference ID of a category. However, if CAT- is a reference ID prefix that is configured in your Metadata Command Center, you cannot use CAT-1.
Name
Enter a name for the category as you want it to appear in Data Marketplace.
Field Type: Free text; required
Guidelines: Enter a name that represents the related data collections that it contains. It is best practice to make these broad, perhaps related to lines of business.
Marketing Data
Description
Enter a description for the category.
Field Type: Free text; required
Guidelines: Enter a descriptive text so that Data Users can easily find the category.
If you use a CSV file to upload categories, do not enter commas in the description. Commas are used as column separators. Consider rephrasing the description to avoid commas
Data collections related to or usable for marketing campaigns
Status
Specify a status for the category. The status determines whether the category is available in Data Marketplace.
Field Type: Fixed value; required
Enter one of the following values:
  • - To make the category available, set the status to ACTIVE.
  • - To make the category unavailable, set the status to INACTIVE.
Guidelines: Typically, the category you create should be in the active state. If you are creating inactive categories, ensure that you have a valid reason for doing so, or create the categories later.
Active
Category Owners
Enter the email addresses of the individuals or the names of the groups that you want to assign as stakeholders of the category with the Category Owner stakeholder role.
Field Type: Fixed value; optional
Guidelines: Use semi-colons to separate your entries, and do not enter a space between each entry.
Ensure that the users are aware of their responsibilities before you assign them the Category Owner role. Additionally, ensure that the users are already assigned the Category Owner user role in the Administrator. For more information about the responsibilities of a Category Owner, see the Category Owner topic in the Introduction and Getting Started help.
