Terms of use

The terms of use provide usage requirements and guidelines that a Data User must accept to use the data. Use the Marketplace - Terms of Use Template.xlsx file or upload your own Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to create Terms of Use in Data Marketplace.

Prerequisites

Before you can create terms of use, verify one of the following prerequisites:

Column description

The following table describes the fields in the Marketplace - Terms of Use Template.xlsx file and the values that you can enter:

Reference ID
Enter a reference identifier for the terms of use.
Field Type: Free text; optional
Guidelines: If you don't specify a reference identifier, Data Marketplace automatically assigns a unique value to the object.
If you want to specify a reference identifier, enter a unique alphabetical, numeric or alphanumeric value. You can also use special characters when you enter a reference identifier value. Ensure that the value that you enter doesn’t use a prefix value that is configured in Metadata Command Center.

You can specify TUse01 or TU-1 as the reference ID of a terms of use. However, if TOU- is a reference ID prefix that is configured in your Metadata Command Center, you cannot use TOU-1.
Name
Enter a name for the terms of use.
Field Type: Free text; required
Guidelines: The terms of use names should clearly indicate the terms and conditions that they represent.

Description
Enter a description for the terms of use.
Field Type: Free text; required
Guidelines: Explain the nature of the terms of use, so that a stakeholder of a data collection can determine whether it meets their requirements.
If you use a CSV file to upload terms of use, do not enter commas in the description. Commas are used as column separators. Consider rephrasing the description to avoid commas.
The data in this collection is curated for sales analytics.
Type
Specify a type for the terms of use.
Field Type: Free text; required
Enter one of the following types:
  • - ACCESSIBLE
  • - CONTROLLED
  • - RESTRICTED
Guidelines: The value you enter here helps a stakeholder of a data collection to know the nature of terms that are represented here.
RESTRICTED
Status
Specify a status for the terms of use. The status determines whether a terms of use is available to be added to a data collection.
Field Type: Fixed value; required
Enter one of the following values:
  • - To make the terms of use available, set the status to ENABLED.
  • - To make the terms of use unavailable, set the status to DISABLED.
Guidelines: Typically, the terms of use that you create should be active for use. If you are creating inactive terms of use, ensure that you have a valid reason for doing so, or you can create the terms of use later.
DISABLED
URI
Enter a uniform resource identifier for the terms of use.
Field Type: Free text; optional
Guidelines: Enter a URI that is most helpful for consumers to access the terms of use.
