Manage hierarchical and non-hierarchical relationships
Relationships show how records are related to one another. You can create and manage hierarchical and non-hierarchical relationships between records. Hierarchical relationships represent a hierarchical structure or parent-child relationships between records. Non-hierarchical relationships are between records that are related with a predefined relationship or with a business entity field.
Hierarchical relationships
A hierarchy contains first-level nodes, child records, and relationships between the records. The hierarchy relationships that you can create depend on your hierarchy model.
Records related with a relationship
You can relate two records with a predefined relationship and establish a non-hierarchical relationship between them.
Records related with a business entity record field
You can relate two records with a business entity record field and establish a non-hierarchical relationship between them. Based on your data model, you can relate records with business entity record fields in the following ways:
•A business entity record field in one business entity record that refers to another.
•Business entity record fields in a business entity that groups multiple business entity records.
