Managing Access to Data Lake Resources
You can manage access to the data lake by assigning permissions on the Enterprise Data Catalog resources that represent Hive schemas and HDFS locations in the data lake to Enterprise Data Preparation users and groups of users.
You can grant permissions to users or groups to perform the following operations on Hive schemas and HDFS locations in the data lake:
- •Delete assets from the data lake.
- •Download assets from the data lake as comma-separated value (.csv) file or a Tableau Data Extract (.tde) files.
- •Export publications from the data lake to an external database.
- •Import assets from external sources to a specific target in the data lake.
- •Publish or copy prepared assets to a specific target in the data lake.
- •Upload files to a specific target in the data lake.
You can assign users or groups permissions to specific Hive schemas or HDFS locations represented by a resource, or to all Hive schemas or HDFS locations represented by the resource. When you grant permissions on specific schemas or locations to a user or group of users, the application displays only those schemas and locations to which a user has permissions when the user performs an import, publish, or upload operation.
Assigning Data Lake Permissions to Users and Groups
You can assign permissions to users or groups of users to perform operations on Hive schemas and HDFS locations in the data lake.
1. Select the Settings icon, and then select Lake Management.
2. Click the Security Management tab.
3. Click Add.
4. Start typing the user name of a user or group in the User/Group field, and then select the user or group to add.
The application adds the unique identifier for the user or group, and the security domain to which the user or group belongs.
5. Select the resource on which to grant the user or group permissions.
6. Select the data lake schema or folder associated with the resource on which to grant the user or group permissions.
7. Select Grant under each permission you want to grant to the user or group.
8. Click Save.
