Datatype Conflict
Enterprise discovery identifies datatype conflicts in columns. A datatype conflict is a mismatch of inferred and documented datatypes of a column after you run enterprise discovery. An inferred datatype is the datatype that the Analyst tool derives for a data source column based on the column data. A documented datatype is the declared datatype for a column in the source database.
Enterprise discovery might infer a different datatype for a column based on the column data compared to the documented datatype of a column. For example, the enterprise discovery can infer a column with a documented string datatype as a date datatype. You can review the datatype conflict, choose the most appropriate datatype date for the column, and approve it.
Viewing Datatype Conflicts
When you open a profile with datatype conflicts from the Summary view, the Analyst tool highlights the datatype conflicts in Red.
1. Run a profile to perform enterprise discovery.
2. Verify that you are in the Summary view.
3. Under the Column Profiling section, click Conflicting inferred vs. documented datatypes to view the datatype conflicts in column profile results.
A list of profiles that contains columns with datatype conflicts appear in the right pane.
4. Select a row in the right pane, if required.
The hyperlinks to the profile appear in Blue color.
5. Click the profile name link or column name link to open the profile.
The profile opens and displays the datatype conflicts in Red color. You can choose to curate the inferred datatypes to resolve the datatype conflict.
