Onboarding Parent of Physical Fields as Data Set
You can link all the physical fields of a parent to attributes at once instead of individually linking each field of a parent to an attribute. This type of linking simplifies the process of onboarding of a parent-level object, such as folders and tables, as data sets in Axon.
1. From the Axon toolbar, click Create > Manage Catalog Links to view the Physical Fields tab.
2. Select a row for the parent from which you want to link the fields to attributes.
3. Right-click the row and click Manage Parent-level Linking. Optionally, click the drop-down menu next to the Search button and click Manage Parent-level Linking.
If you select more than one row, you cannot see the Manage Parent-level Linking option.
4. In the Associate with field, select a data set from which you want to link attributes to the physical fields of the parent.
Informatica recommends attributes of the selected data set that you can link the fields to.
The following image shows a sample linking of physical fields of a parent to attributes:
5. Optionally, click Create to create a data set.
- a. In the Create a Data Set dialog box, you can see that the parent name is populated for the data set name. You can change the name if you want.
- b. Specify values for the rest of the required properties, and click Save.
6. From the Type list, select the link type.
Option | Description |
---|
Existing | Select an existing attribute of the data set. |
New from Field | Create an attribute from the physical field information. |
7. If the link type is New from Field, Axon automatically populates the Attribute and Definition columns. If the definition is not available, the value displays "Not Defined."
The Glossary Name column is automatically populated only if a field is linked to a glossary. If an attribute is linked to multiple glossaries, you need to manually select the glossary.
If you select Existing, you have to manually choose the values for the Attribute and Definition fields. The Glossary Name column is automatically populated if an attribute has a linked glossary.
8. If you choose to associate the physical fields with Existing and New from Field type attributes, you can see the Type column reset to "-" value.
9. Optionally, click the x icon if you do not want to link a field of the selected parent to an attribute.
10. Click Save.
