Create and Edit Objects Overview
You can create several types of objects in Axon. Objects are data assets that belong to one of the various areas of data governance, such as Regulatory, Organizational, Business and Change, and Data and Technology.
Verify the following prerequisites before you create an object:
- •You must have the New permission to create an object. Contact your administrator for this permission.
- •Some objects require that other associated objects are already present in Axon. For example, if you want to create a data set, its associated system must already be present in Axon.
Each facet has some default configuration values, such as lifecycle, classification types, and relationship types, that are predefined in Axon. You can configure these values from the Admin panel. If your current Axon instance was upgraded from a previous version, you might see more values in the drop-down configuration list from the previous version. When you perform a fresh install, you can see the latest, shorter list of dropdown configuration values.
When you create an Axon object or edit an existing object, the Summary tab of the object displays the custom fields if an Admin or SuperAdmin user has configured custom fields in the Admin Panel. If default values are specified for the custom fields in the Admin Panel, you can see the default values when you create an object.
If a SuperAdmin user has created segments, you can view the list of segments in Unison search. When you create an object, select a segment in the Segment field to assign the object to the segment. You can view and change the segment when you edit the object. If the object has a dependent parent object, you cannot change the segment for the object. For example, the segment of a data set depends on the segment of the system on which the data set resides.
An object can be a part of only one segment at a time. You can assign a user as a stakeholder to an object if the user has access to the segment to which the object belongs.
You cannot view the Segment field when you create the following objects:
- •Attributes
- •Org Unit
- •People
- •Data Quality Rule
- •Change Request
- •System Interface
If the administrator has enabled the Data Marketplace option in the Admin Panel, you must be in the Data Governance view of Axon to create and manage objects.
Consider the following guidelines when you create an object:
- •When you create an object, update the Stakeholder tab with the appropriate stakeholder information. After you create an object, Axon assigns you as the default stakeholder. If role assignments configured for facets in the Admin Panel, you can enter the stakeholders based on the predefined list of users.
- •To create a large number of objects, use the bulk upload templates. Axon assigns you as the default stakeholder for the bulk created objects. If role assignments configured for facets in the Admin Panel, you can enter the stakeholders based on the predefined list of users.
- •If the Axon Admin or SuperAdmin has defined a workflow for the object that you want to create, the object moves through the workflow lifecycle. At each stage of the workflow, the stakeholders must make a decision on the object before the object moves to the next phase defined in the workflow.
