Organization Hierarchies
An organization hierarchy is a hierarchy of related organizations that includes one parent organization and one or more sub-organizations. For example, an organization hierarchy can represent different groups of users, where a sub-organization exists for each group.
Create an organization hierarchy in the following situations:
- •You want to add or remove licenses for organizations without the need to contact Informatica Global Customer Support.
- •You want to switch between organizations without logging in to each one.
- •You want to monitor multiple organizations at a time.
The administrator for a parent organization can create an organization hierarchy and manage sub-organization licenses. Each sub-organization inherits the licenses of the parent organization. You do not need to contact Informatica Global Customer Support to add a license to a sub-organization, provided that the license belongs to the parent organization. If a sub-organization requires a license that does not belong to the parent organization, contact Informatica Global Customer Support to obtain the license for the parent organization.
If you have access rights to multiple organizations within an organization hierarchy, you can change from one organization to another without logging in to each one. You can also monitor all of the jobs at the same time.
The organization that you use to create a hierarchy becomes the parent organization. You can use the parent organization as a container to hold the sub-organizations and all of the licenses available to the sub-organizations. You can also use the parent organization as you would a sub-organization. For example, you can use a parent organization for a specific group of users or for a development environment. A sub-organization cannot be a parent to any organizations or be a part of any other organization hierarchy.
To copy objects from one organization to another organization within an organization hierarchy, you need to migrate the objects. You cannot drag and drop objects between sub-organizations.
To create a sub-organization, the parent organization must have the Organization Hierarchy license. The number of sub-organizations allowed in an organization hierarchy is based on the Maximum Sub-Organizations property specified for the Organization Hierarchy license. To increase the number of sub-organizations allowed for an organization, contact Informatica Global Customer Support.
Organization Hierarchy Example
You want to have separate environments for data synchronization task development, testing, and production to ensure that data synchronization tasks are tested before they are available to run in production.
While you are logged in to the parent organization, you create a sub-organization for task development, a sub-organization for testing, and a sub-organization for production. Add users to the sub-organizations and ensure that the Data Synchronization license is enabled. Monitor jobs for all of the sub-organizations. When task development is complete, change to the testing sub-organization and migrate the task objects from the development sub-organization to the testing sub-organization. When testing is complete, change to the production sub-organization and migrate the objects from the testing sub-organization to the production sub-organization.
