When you create a dictionary through the Data Integration or Data Quality user interface, or through the Data Quality Dictionary API, you can update the dictionary from either the user interface or through the API.
A dictionary cannot accept updates from both environments simultaneously. You can convert the dictionary from one editing environment to another. Enforcing a single environment for dictionary updates ensures that users in different environments do not inadvertently overwrite each other's changes.
When you open a dictionary, the Definition and Configuration tabs display an option to switch to the alternative environment. To change the editing environment from the Data Quality Dictionary API to the user interface, click Convert to UI. To change the editing environment from the user interface to the Dictionary API, click Convert to API.
After you convert the dictionary, a message appears to indicate that the dictionary will be saved and converted to the environment you specified.
