Export and Import Assets
You can export the assets, reference assets, child assets, custom attributes, business terms, and data domains to the comma-separated values (CSV) file and import the CSV file back into Enterprise Data Catalog.
Use the exported CSV file to edit or assign custom attribute values and business titles to multiple assets simultaneously. You can also use the exported CSV file to collaborate with other business users.
The exported CSV file contains the asset types, reference asset types, child assets, custom attributes, Axon glossaries, business glossary terms, and data domains that you select during the export.
For example, the Finance_Department resource contains relational tables that have information about the payroll. Your goal as a payroll manager might be to assign the Payroll custom attribute value to all the tables in bulk so that you can search for the tables using the assigned custom attribute value. To achieve this goal, you can export the relational tables in the Finance_Department resource and custom attribute called Payroll to a CSV file. In the exported CSV file, you can assign the Payroll custom attribute value to the relational tables, and then import the file back into the Catalog. After the import job completes, the Catalog updates the tables based on the custom attribute value you assigned in the exported CSV file.
You can export assets from the Resource Overview tab, Asset Overview tab or Search Results Page.
- Resource Overview Tab
- The Catalog exports specific assets in the resource, custom attributes that are configured for assets in the resource, reference assets, business terms, and data domains. The CSV file includes reference assets if you export a resource that contains reference assets or export a reference resource.
- Asset Overview Tab
- The Catalog, by default, exports the asset, custom attributes that are configured for the asset, child assets, business terms, and data domains. The CSV file includes child assets if you export data assets, such as tables, views, synonyms, and public synonyms. You can export a maximum of 200000 assets.
- Search Results Page
- The Catalog, by default, exports all the assets that appear in the search results page, custom attributes that are available in the Catalog, business terms, and data domains. You can export assets after you refine the search results from any search tab in the search results page. You can export a maximum of 200000 assets.
Import the CSV file back into the catalog to update the assets based on the attribute values that you specify in the exported CSV file. After the import job is complete, Enterprise Data Catalog sends the email to the email address that you specify during the import job. You can send the email notification to more than one person. The email notification message contains an URL to download the details of the import job. To send email notifications to multiple recipients, use a comma to separate the email address entries. You can also monitor the export and import job status in the
Monitor Job page. To open the
Monitor Job page, click the (
) user icon, and then select the
Monitor option from the list. You can import assets from the Resource Overview tab or
User menu option in the Enterprise Data Catalog header.
Prerequisites
Before you export or import assets, verify that you have met the following perquisites:
- • Ensure that you have the Read and Write permission assigned to the DomainUsers resource in the Catalog Administrator.

- • If you want to receive email notifications on the import job status, ensure that you have configured the Receive Alerts through Email option for the catalog service and email service in the Informatica Administrator.

Export File Description
You can create a CSV file to edit or assign custom attribute and business title values to multiple assets simultaneously. To edit multivalued custom attributes in the CSV file, enclose each value within the double quotes and separate the value using a comma.
The following table lists the default order of the columns, column headings, and the format of the values in the CSV file:

Title (Informatica Business Glossary) | Displays business glossary terms that are associated with the assets that you export. Use this column to edit or associate business glossary terms with assets. |
Title (Informatica Axon) | Displays Axon glossaries that are associated with the assets that you export. Use this column to edit or associate Axon glossaries with assets. |
Inferred and Accepted Data Domains | Displays data domains that are inferred or accepted for the assets that you export. Do not edit the values in the column. |
Custom Attribute Name | Specifies the name of the custom attribute. Use this column to edit or assign custom attributes to assets. |
Exporting Assets
You can export assets to a comma-separated values (CSV) file from the Resource Overview tab, Asset Overview tab, and search results page.
1. From the search results page, Resource Overview tab, or Asset Overview tab, open the menu () and select Export Assets. The Export Assets dialog box appears.
Note: If you export assets from the resource overview tab, you must select the asset types before you select the custom attributes for export.
2. Select the custom attributes that you want to export.
- - Optionally, to export all the custom attributes that are configured in the Catalog, select the Choose attributes to export check box.
- - Optionally, if you do not want to export data domains, business terms, reference assets, and child assets, clear the check boxes.
Note: The CSV file includes reference assets when you export a reference resource or a resource that contains reference assets.
3. Click OK.
Note: Do not edit or modify the values of the custom attributes that are not applicable in the exported CSV file.
Importing Assets
You can import a CSV file into Enterprise Data Catalog after you make the required changes to the exported CSV file. The content of the CSV file needs to be in the same order and format that the import job requires. The CSV file must contain all the column headings. All the columns in the CSV file need not have values assigned.
1. In the Enterprise Data Catalog header, click the () user icon, and then select the Importoption from the list. Alternatively, from the overview tab of a resource, open the menu () and select theImport Assets option. The Import Assets dialog box appears.
2. Click Browse to select the CSV file you want to import from the local machine. Optionally, to import the file, you can drag the CSV file into the dotted rectangle in the Select file to import section.
3. Click Next.
4. To receive notifications on the import status, select the Send email notification check box and enter a valid email address in the address field. Enter multiple email addresses separated by a comma.
Note: You must enable the Receive Alerts through Email option for the catalog service and enable email service in Informatica Administrator to receive notifications on the import status.
5. Click OK.
The Enterprise Data Catalog sends you a notification after the import job is complete and updates assets based on the attribute values that were assigned in the exported CSV file.
Monitoring Export and Import Jobs
You can monitor the status of the asset import and export jobs in the Monitor Jobs page.
The Monitor Jobs page displays the details, such as the type of export or import job that is running, status of the export or import job, date and time of when the job was created, start time of the job, and end time of the job.
You can filter the list of jobs based on the status, such as running, completed, submitted, and failed. You can download the CSV file for the export jobs. To download the export CSV file, click the download link for a particular job in the Results column. You can also view the status of the job in the log file. To open the log file, click the log location link for a particular job in the Log URL column.
Note: After you restart the Catalog Service in Informatica Administrator, the export and import job log details are refreshed and deleted every 24 hours.
Business Term Curation through Export and Import
You can accept or reject multiple inferred business terms simultaneously from the .csv file. You can also assign a business term to an asset manually.
The exported .csv file contains column headings of inferred, accepted, and rejected business terms. You can edit the columns to accept, reject, or delete the business terms and import the .csv file back into the catalog.
You can perform the following actions to change the business term state in the exported .csv file:
