Search Tabs Overview
Search tabs are predefined filters that you can use to search assets in the Catalog. Use search tabs to quickly find assets without having to repeatedly set the same search criteria when you perform a search for assets in the catalog at different points in time.
Enterprise Data Catalog displays a set of default search tabs along with search filters in the Search Results page. The default search tabs include the Resources, Data Objects, Data Elements, Reports, and Business Terms tabs. The results that appear on the Search Results page vary based on the search tab that you open. Each search tab has a set of filters selected by default. For example, when you open the Business Terms tab, the data types, such as Terms and Axon Glossary under the Asset Type filter are selected by default, and the search results page displays the available business terms in the catalog.
The following image displays the sample Search Results page:
- 1. Search tabs. Displays the search tabs available to refine the search results.
- 2. Filter By section. Displays the search filters available to refine the search results.
You can create customized search tabs using a combination of search filters based on business requirements. You can use any filter type while creating a search tab. All users who have access to the catalog can create search tabs. Create search tabs in the Application Configuration page to save the search filter criteria with which you want to search for assets. You can create multiple search tabs.
After you create a search tab, the tab appears next to the default search tabs in the Search Results page. When you open a search tab, Enterprise Data Catalog displays search results based on the predefined filter criteria, you can further apply the available filters to refine the search results. Enterprise Data Catalog dynamically applies different search criteria to the list of available filters in the Filter by section based on different search tabs.
Example 1. Business Example
You are a medical data analyst in a healthcare organization who maintains patient records. A patient record contains patient information, doctor information, treatment history, and insurance details from multiple data sources. The data is in different tables named Patient Details, Doctor Details, Treatment History, and Patient Insurance Details in an Oracle resource named Patient_Med_Record. You want to perform a search to find these records. Instead of searching for the records using different search filters on a regular basis. As a one-time step, you create a search tab named Patient Records using a combination of search filter options. You use filter options, such as the Patient_Med_Record option from the Resource Name filter, Tables from the Asset Type filter, and Oracle from the Resource Type filter. After you create the search tab, you can then open the Patient Records whenever you need to quickly find the records.
