Business Glossary Synchronization

When you associate a business term with a technical asset in Enterprise Data Catalog, the relationship information is updated in the Analyst tool business glossary. When you update asset links for a business term in an Analyst tool business glossary, Enterprise Data Catalog can extract the updated link information if the glossary is assigned to resource BG_DEFAULT_RESOURCE.
Synchronization between Enterprise Data Catalog and the Analyst tool business glossary occurs in the following ways:
From the catalog to the Analyst tool business glossary.
When you associate a business term with a technical asset in the catalog, the relationship is displayed in the catalog and in the Analyst tool business glossary. When you open the term in the Analyst tool business glossary, the Analyst tool imports the asset link and displays it in the Related Assets section.
For example, you associate the business term "Annual Salary" with the SALARY column in an Oracle table. Enterprise Data Catalog displays the term Annual Salary next to the column name in the search results and Asset Details view. When you open the business term in the Analyst tool business glossary, the SALARY column is listed as a related data asset.
From the Analyst tool business glossary to the catalog.
When you update an asset link for a term in the Analyst tool business glossary, Enterprise Data Catalog can extract the updated link information. Enterprise Data Catalog can extract the link information if the glossary is assigned to resource BG_DEFAULT_RESOURCE.
When an Informatica administrator creates and enables an Analyst Service with Catalog Service properties, the Analyst Service creates a default business glossary resource named "BG_DEFAULT_RESOURCE." The catalog administrator assigns business glossaries to BG_DEFAULT_RESOURCE. The metadata load job that is associated with BG_DEFAULT_RESOURCE extracts information from the Analyst tool business glossary and imports it into the catalog. The metadata load job starts when an Analyst tool user creates or updates an asset link in a business glossary that is assigned to the resource.
For example, a catalog administrator assigns business glossary Finance_Glossary to BG_DEFAULT_RESOURCE. An Analyst tool user links business term "Planned Cost" in Finance_Glossary to a flat file data asset named "COSTS." This action starts the metadata load job for BG_DEFAULT_RESOURCE. When the metadata load job completes, you view the term "Planned Cost" in the catalog. The Asset Details view lists the data asset "COSTS" in the Other Assets section.
If you create a business glossary resource to extract assets from a glossary that is not assigned to BG_DEFAULT_RESOURCE, Enterprise Data Catalog does not automatically synchronize assets. To synchronize the assets, you must load the business glossary resource manually through Catalog Administrator. Alternatively, you can configure a schedule in Catalog Administrator to load the resource at regular intervals.
