Creating Custom Resources

Perform the following steps to create a custom resource:
    1. Click New > Resource.
    The New Resource wizard appears.
    2. Enter a name and an optional description for the resource.
    3. Click File > Choose to open the Select Resource Type dialog box.
    4. Select the custom resource from the Custom Resources section and click Select.
More fields appear in the wizard based on the resource type you created.
    5. Configure the following options under the Connection Properties section:
    1. a. ETL Resource. If you are configuring an ETL resource to view the transformation lineage, Select Yes.
    2. Make sure that you include the lineage.csv file with the lineage details for the custom data source in the ZIP file. See Entering Transformation Details for Custom ETL Resources for more information.
    3. b. Auto Assign Connections. This option appears if you had selected Yes for the ETL Resource option. If you want to automatically assign connections to the resource, select this option.
    4. c. Run Script. If you have automated the process to collect metadata from the data sources and generate the ZIP file using a script or a sequence of commands, choose Yes.
    5. Provide the following details if you selected Yes for the Run Script option:
    6. d. Files present in remote path. If you want to select the ZIP file that includes the custom metadata from a remote file location, choose Yes. Specify the absolute path to the file in the Remote File Path text box.
    7. e. File. This option is not applicable if you selected Yes for the Files present in remote path option. Click Choose to select the ZIP file that you created for the custom data source. Alternatively, you can place the file in the File box using a drag-and-drop procedure.
Verify the following prerequisites for the ZIP file:
    6. Click Next to move to the Metadata Load Settings page.
    7. Select Enable Source Metadata to extract metadata from the ZIP file.
    8. Select one of the values for Memory to specify the memory required to run the scanner job:
Select the required memory based on the size of the data set that you want to import. See the Tuning Enterprise Data Catalog Performance How-to-Library article for more information about memory values.
    9. Click Next to move to the Custom Attributes page, and configure the attribute settings. You can select the custom attributes that you want to associate with the resource.
    10. Click Next to go to the Schedulepage.
    11. Optionally, select schedules for source metadata load and profiling metadata. You can create a global schedule if required.
    12. Click Save, or Click Save and Run.
After you create a custom resource, ensure that you refresh the Enterprise Data Catalog search before you search for custom metadata in the catalog.
