Assigning Connections to Reference Resources

You can assign connections from reference resources to resources or other reference resources using the Connection Assignment workspace.
Follow the steps listed in the Managing Connections section to assign connections. You can generate a missing links report after performing the connection assignment to view the details of source and target objects that are not linked. For more information, see the Missing Links Report section.
Alternatively, you can automatically assign connections between the reference resource and resource from the Auto Assigned Connections tab. After automatic connection assignment, you can view the list of connections assigned to manually assign or unassign connections.
When you perform connection assignment, you can select the Retain Unresolved Reference Assets option in the Assign Connection dialog box to retain unresolved reference assets in the catalog after you assign connections. Unresolved reference assets include tables, columns, and any other assets that are not present in the actual resource, but need to be retained to view the complete lineage. The unresolved reference assets appear under the resource to which the connection assignment is performed for the reference resource.
After you unassign connections between reference resources and resources, Enterprise Data Catalog retains the reference resources and assets in the catalog with the custom attributes and business terms you had associated with the reference assets before you performed connection assignment. After you unassign the connection, Enterprise Data Catalog does not retain any custom attributes or business terms propagated from the reference asset to the asset.
