Overview
In the Catalog Administrator, you can run the PowerCenter resources and flat file resources to view the lineage between the resources in Enterprise Data Catalog.
Sometimes, when a PowerCenter mapping resides on a Windows machine, the lineage between the PoweCenter resources and flat files might not appear in Enterprise Data Catalog. This issue might occur because the file path in the resources might not match. When Enterprise Data Catalog generates the lineage, the file system scanner uses the network shared path and the PowerCenter scanner uses the absolute path. To resolve this issue, enter the mapped path on the Windows machine in the Physical Location field of the file system resource. You can enter the network or shared path in the Path field.
The Physical Location field applies to flat files. When lineage is generated between the PowerCenter files and flat files, Enterprise Data Catalog uses the Physical Location field instead of the Path field in the file system scanner. In a PowerCenter resource, if you choose the Auto assign Connections option, Enterprise Data Catalog assigns the connection based on the absolute path.
Example 1. Example
Assume that the flat files are located in the c:\user1\1021\SMB\test_files folder. You map the c:\user1\1021\SMB folder to \\SMB\ shared directory.
This example includes the following folder paths:
- •c:\user1\1021\SMB\test_files is the absolute path.
- •c:\user1\1021\SMB is the mapped path or absolute path of the shared directory.
- •\\SMB\ is the network directory.
- •\\SMB\test_files\ is the network or shared path.
