Overview

Informatica provides a standalone scanner utility that you can use to extract metadata from offline and inaccessible resources. The utility contains a script that you need to run along with the associated multiple commands in a sequence.
Catalog Administrator is an administration tool that you can use to manage and monitor the resources, schedules, attributes, and connections. You can extract metadata from all the resources in an enterprise through Catalog Administrator. To extract the metadata, you can create connections, create and run the resources, and create schedules to run the resources at periodic intervals. When the data sources are offline or inaccessible, you cannot use the Catalog Administrator tool to extract metadata.
To extract metadata from external sources that are inaccessible at runtime or offline, you can use the standalone scanner utility. You can run the script and its associated commands to extract metadata from inaccessible or offline data sources and publish it to the catalog. After you publish the metadata to the catalog, you can view the data assets in Enterprise Data Catalog. In Linux, run the scanner.sh script and its associated commands.
To run the script, you need appropriate permissions to the folders and files which the script uses to store metadata and Enterprise Data Catalog uses to publish the metadata.
You can extract metadata from the following external sources when they are inaccessible at runtime or offline:
Cloud
Data Engineering
Business Glossary
Business Intelligence
Data Integration
Data Modeling
Database Management
File Management
No SQL
Apache Cassandra
Application
SAP S/4HANA
Note: To extract metadata from the SAP S/4HANA data source in the offline mode, specify SAPERP6 as the resource type in the scanner.sh generateResourceConfig command.
