Creating a Resource

When you create a resource, you can specify the resource type, type of metadata that Enterprise Data Catalog extracts, and an optional schedule for the resource. You can also assign custom attributes to the resource when you create it.
Note: It is recommended that you validate the connection after you configure a resource. Click Test Connection to validate the connection parameters.
    1. Launch the Catalog Administrator.
    2. Click New > Resource.
    The New Resource wizard appears.
    3. Enter a name and an optional description for the resource.
    4. Optionally, if you want to assign custom attribute values to the resource, enter values for attributes, such as the department, data owner, data steward, and subject matter experts in the Additional Properties section.
    5. Click Choose to open the Select Resource Type dialog box.
    6. Select a resource type, and click Select.
    More fields appear in the wizard based on the resource type you selected.
    7. Based on the resource type, configure the connection properties.
    8. Click Next to move to the Metadata Load Settings page.
    You can choose the type of metadata that you want Enterprise Data Catalog to extract from the source systems.
    9. Configure the required source metadata and profiling metadata parameters.
    10. Click Next to move to the Custom Attributes page, and configure the attribute settings. You can select the custom attributes that you want to associate with the resource.
    11. Click Next to move to the Data Access page.
    12. Optionally, enable data provisioning or preparation if you want to create provisioning or preparation tasks in Enterprise Data Catalog.
    13. Click Next to move to the Permissions page, and restrict the permissions for the resource. You can also assign or modify the resource permissions from the security settings.
    14. Click Next to go to the Schedule page.
    15. Optionally, select schedules for source metadata load and profiling metadata. You can create a global schedule if required.
    Note: You can view the server time zone for both custom and reusable schedules. Select or create schedules based on the server time zone.
    16. Click Save, or Click Save and Run.
