Search for Assets Overview

You can perform a search for assets in multiple ways in Enterprise Data Catalog. You can either use the asset name as a keyword or perform a generic search using the wildcard character, asterisk (*). You can also search for exact matches using double quotes (""). When you search for a word or phrase using double quotes, the word or phrase is tokenized into different terms with no word boundary. To make your search results more accurate, you can use search operators, such as AND, OR, NOT, title, and description. Enterprise Data Catalog also displays suggestions when you type the name of a required asset.
Enterprise Data Catalog displays search results based on the stemming process. Stemming is a process of reducing a word to its root word. For example, if you search for an asset called Customer, Enterprise Data Catalog might display Custom in the search results in addition to assets with customer in their names. Enterprise Data Catalog also ignores stop words in a search query. Some examples of stop words are 'the',' a', 'an', and 'in'. For example, if the Catalog contains an asset named Sales 2018,you can enter Sales in 2018 in the search box, the Catalog ignores in and displays Sales 2018 in the search results.
When you choose to show details in the search results page, the page by default displays the details of the asset, such as the asset description, asset certification status, rating for the asset, path to the asset, and type of the asset. You can use the search filters displayed to refine your search further based on the Certified Assets, Ratings, Resource Name, Asset Type, Resource Type, Last Updated, Rows, and Data Domains. You can also save your search filter criteria and use them as search prefilters before you search for assets.
After finding the required asset, you can click the asset to view the profiling details, the lineage, and the relationship of the asset with other assets.
Alternatively, you can perform this task using the REST APIs. For more information, see the List the Catalog Search Results topic in the Enterprise Data Catalog REST API Reference guide.
