Enrichment and validation in approval workflows

Rule associations for enrichment and validation run when you update records in approval workflows.
If your organization has approval workflows configured, rule associations for enrichment and validation work the same way as they do during record creation and updates.

Submitting records for approval

When a data steward submits records for approval, the rule associations configured to run on record submission enrich and validate the records. The results are applied and saved to the records. A business event then moves the records into the approval workflow, and a task is created in the Workflow Inbox.

Editing records from the Workflow Inbox

When you claim a task, edit a record, and apply changes to a section, rule associations configured to run during section save run on the record. The results appear in the section but aren't saved yet.
When you save the record, the rule associations run again, and the results are applied to the record that's in the pending state. The edits and the results remain in the pending record and are saved to the record only when you approve the record.

Resolving the task

The action that you take to resolve the task determines what happens to the record that's in the pending state:

Multi-step approval workflows

In a multi-step approval workflow, such as MDM Two Step Approval or MDM Four Step Approval, enrichment and validation repeat at each step. For example, after you approve a record, if the second user edits the record, rule associations run again when the user edits and saves the record.

CLAIRE recommendations

If your organization has rule associations configured to display enrichment data as recommendations, the recommendations appear in the CLAIRE panel after you apply changes to a section and save the record. You can accept or reject recommendations.
